Polarkonsult has participated in a Rolls Royce Marine (RRM) development project on PM thrusters by installing two prototype thrusters for RV Gunnerus.
RRM in cooperation with the Owner, NTNU, has mounted new PM azimuth thrusters on our former design RV Gunnerus, built at Larsnes Mek. Verksted in 2004. The new 500 kW thrusters have proved positive qualities during the first tests.
The new thrusters was mounted at Moen Marine in 2014. The new PM azimuths for Gunnerus is the company's prototype for this new series of azimuthing PM thrusters. Earlier, RRM has designed and produced PM tunnel thrusters.
Reports from the vessel is favorable with extreme maneuvrability and low noise an vibration levels.
The engineering for the mounting has been carried out by Polarkonsult in close cooperation with Royce Marine.
The new thrusters replaced the traditional 5 bladed nozzle propellers from Finnøy, specially designed for low hydroacoustic noise levels. The Owner, NTNU says that the reason for the replacement is mainly to achieve improved maneuverability and to contribute to the RRM development program. RV Gunnerus was built by Larsnes Mek. Verksted, designed by Polarkonsult.
